There are many wonderful choices available when it comes to restaurants in theSan Diego area. Most mid- to upper-scale restaurants are usually happy to adapt menu items for the gluten-free diet. Many restaurants now have menu items that they have determined are gluten free (see
Restaurant GF Statements). A special thank-you is due to P.F. Changs, Outback Steakhouse and Pei Wei, who are now graciously providing special gluten-free menus at each of their restaurants. The
Restaurant Recommendations are from gluten-free diners in San Diego that have had a positive dining experience. The "Eating Out Tips" provides suggestions and recommendations for eating out.
Warning: This is meant only as a resource guide with information that was found to be accurate at the date of each entry(listed under the restaurant name). It is always recommended to check on cross-contamination issues, and to reconfirm with your wait staff and/or chef that an item is indeed gluten free. Restaurants are always changing in terms of ingredients used, menu items offered, preparation methods, and staff. Please use ordering as an opportunity to respectfully and patiently educate the staff one person at a time.

I told the waiter up front I was going to have the gluten free pasta, and they boiled me a new pot of water without me even asking. They were also able to go over which sauces were okay without question, and then substitute if I wanted a different dish.
