"I want to recommend a great food store . . .It is a small food store, but it is the only place that I have found a cereal called "Perky's 100% Natural Nutty Rice Cereal" by Pacific Grain. So many gluten free cereals are so loaded with sugar, and this one is not. It is comparable to grape nuts cereal. They also carry shrink-wrapped Boars Head deli meats." L.M., Oceanside

"There are a lot of people who have allergies, and we try to be very responsive to customers' needs," Frazier states, adding that "we like the challenge."

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market
Nicole DeRuiter, social media manager for Fresh & Easy emailed in 8/11: ". . . we’re actually expanding, this month, our gluten-free section to nearly 50 products. These products are in addition to the standard product, meat and dairy options that are naturally gluten-free.

We also product a gluten-aware shopping list on our website, though I believe we’re currently in process on updating that list to reflect all of our new selections. That is permanently located here, for your reference: www.freshandeasy.com/glutenfree (then just scroll down to the list and click to open in a PDF viewer)."

From Daphne L. in 8/11: "Run, do not walk, to Fresh & Easy.  I was ambling through the aisles there, when I stumbled across their big gluten-free section, right across from the frozen foods.  They carry Schar, Glutino and EnjoyLife products for 1/2 to 2/3rds the price of Whole Foods or Henry’s.  Fabulous!"

Major Market
www.majormarketgrocery.com

"Major Market in Fallbrook has been wonderful about bringing in gluten free items. They have ordered everything I have asked for and carry those items on the shelf.  I used to have to drive to Temecula or Escondido to find what I needed but I no longer need to make that drive as I can shop gluten free in Fallbrook easily now.  They were even able to get the new lactose free yogurt and the deli carries lactose free cheese which is wonderful as many celiacs also have problems with lactose.
Robert F., Fallbrook, 11/11

"I was in Major Market in Escondido today and was pleasantly surprised to find a new gluten free section.  It is the largest selection I have seen in a major (non-health food specific) grocery store. They have several types of Tinkyada pasta, several Bob’s Red Mill Mixes, Pamela’s cookies & mixes, GF soy sauce, and several other items. They seemed to be reasonably priced.

I spoke to the manager on duty, John, and thanked him and he said they are planning on expanding the gluten free items they carry, with customer recommendations.  I will shop there more often knowing they care enough about their customers with food allergies to stock food we can eat.

I know that they also have a store in Fallbrook, but I do not know if they are stocking similar items."

They keep a gluten-free list at their "information center" that lists approximately 140 foods. This list is also on their website (click here).

Trader Joe's brand will declare any gluten: The following is in response to a question about the ingredients in the Trader Joe's lentils: "No Trader Joe's products will have a gluten source under natural flavorings. If there was any gluten source in the product it would be clearly listed out. The lentils are a gluten free product. The natural flavorings are a proprietary blend of spices." Kellye, Trader Joe's, Customer Relations 10/13

Warning!: Several times in the past there have been errors on the GF list for Trader Joe's. Make sure to read the ingredient labels even though the product is on their GF list.
