Red Robin now provides a gluten-free list of item choices upon request at each restaurant. It comes with a page of warnings that items could be substituted, cooking surfaces may not be gluten-free, etc. This list is updated every month. To be on the safe side, you may request this list from the Red Robin website by using the "Contact Us" section. Be prepared to wait up to a week to receive it, however.

Comments:

"I just spoke with the food manager at our local Red Robin. He said that customers, upon request, will be given a listing of gluten free options. Their fries are cooked in dedicated fryers. He said their seasonings contain no wheat, rye or barley ingredients but there are other natural flavorings so if a customer is concerned, they can request their food be cooked with no seasoning.

I understand that cross contamination may be an issue but to be honest, with my 18 y/o son, it is not an issue yet & any sense of "normalcy" when out with friends is a good thing."

"And they will make any burger into a lettuce wrap....yummy. That is one of the places we eat at when company comes." TheresaTo SillyYak group 2/13/08

"The manager at the Red Robin closest to us said that the fries are supposed to be cooked in a dedicated fryer, but won't guarantee that this policy is always followed. He has asked that we call about 20 min before arriving to eat and he will change the oil in the fryer and have time for the oil to heat." Kerri to SillyYak group, unknown location, 2/13/08

"We're actually going there tonight and I received an email from their corporate headquarters with menu options. It is only valid until 3/1/08, so I'll request a new one after that. I've not had any trouble the few times I eat there. They don't offer the burger in lettuce wrap on the menu here, but they make it for me. Plus, I love the fries and the option to get them when we go out." Stephanie in MN to SillyYak group, 2/13/08

"Our server, Susan, was extremely helpful in determining that we could order a GF kid's meal for our 3-year-old. Susan verified preparation processes with the cooks and management. Very excited to be able to order restaurant food. The burgers and chicken are grilled on a dedicated grill. The kid's meal can be ordered with fruit instead of fries. There is not a dedicated deep-fryer for the fried foods."

"I got the Lettuce Wrap Protein burger. This is a regular burger, wrapped in lettuce to simulate a bun. It was delicious! . . . I also got the steak fries (which normally) Red Robin puts their Red Robin seasoning on the fries, which as glutamates in it. I asked the server for fries without seasoning and they said no problem."

"When I told the waitress about my needs, she said that they made their gluten-free fries in the bacon fryer so that they didn't come in contact with other potential wheat from onion rings, etc, that had been fried in the same oil. She said that in the future I could call ahead and ask them to turn on the fryer and start my fries. (I ended up having to wait till the rest of my meal was gone to eat my "special" fries.). . . It was great to get some fries that were definitely cooked away from the other flour-based things, but it was a bit disconcerting to have fries that tasted a bit like bacon!!"

"I visited the Red Robin in Littleton CO and I was told that their fries (at least at this location) weren't from a dedicated fryer".
