Manufacturers' Statements
Many manufacturers now have a labeling policy that they will
always label gluten (as wheat, barley, rye, oats) on their
ingredient labels. This gives the consumer the ability to determine if a product is gluten-free by simply reading
the ingredient label.
The following are statements from companies that do have accurate gluten-labeling policies.
Many of these companies are HUGE, having many, many brands.
Note: The following information does not address the cross-contamination issues of dedicated facilities or lines.

"ConAgra Foods currently does not make "gluten-free" claims on any of our products as there are no federal regulations defining "gluten-free". I can, however, share some information that will be helpful for any of our ConAgra Foods products so you can determine whether or not the product contains gluten.
- The flour used in our products is often wheat flour and should be avoided by individuals with gluten sensitivities.
- Some fermented or distilled products, such as vinegar, may be drived from wheat. We suggest that you speak to your physician to determine if you need to avoid distilled products derived from wheat, rye, barley, or oats.
- If Natural Flavors, Artificial Flavors, or Spices listed in the ingredients list contained wheat, oat, barley, or rye, these ingredients would be listed in parenthesis immediately following the ingredient.
We always advise consumers who may have sensitivities to recheck the ingredient list on the package each time you purchase it. Products are oftentimes reformulated and the ingredients may change.
If you have a question regarding a specific ingredient in a specific product, please let me know. We would be happy to contact the supplier to determine if it contains an ingredient of concern."

"It is our goal to help our consumers determine whether or not they can include our products in their diet. To accurately accomplish this, we believe it is best to refer to the specific ingredients listed on each product package.
However, we do understand that ingredients can be confusing, so we want to assure you if the ingredient label does not list wheat, barley, rye, oats or gluten containing ingredients sourced from these grains, then the product would be gluten-free. Sources of gluten are listed on the label even if the source of gluten is part of another ingredient (such as flavoring or spice). Because ingredients may vary from one package to another due to product reformulation, you should use the product's ingredient label to provide you with current and accurate information."

"We consider gluten to be in the following, barley, bulgur, couscous, durum, graham flour, kamut, malt , rye, semolina, spelt, triticale and any other types of wheat. We do not consider any oat products to be gluten free due to the fact that studies are needed to determine the long- term safety of oat consumption. The issue of cross contamination with oat and wheat remains a concern in North America.
We do not have lists of products that are specifically considered to be gluten free. Reading the label is the best way to check for the presence of ingredients which contain gluten. If gluten is an ingredient it is listed separately and not under "natural flavors" or "spices". Consumer health and safety is our number one concern, and we do not want to provide information which may not be accurate in the future.
The Arrowhead Mills items which bear the label "gluten free" or "made with gluten free ingredients" are formulated and tested to be gluten free (below the detectable limit of 10ppm).
The Hain Celestial Group's labeling declares major allergens (peanuts, soybeans, milk, eggs, fish, crustaceans, tree nuts, and wheat) and we follow the U.S. FDA's regulations. In addition, our labeling always declares gluten containing ingredients. We recognize the serious nature of the allergen issue and we strive to minimize risk.
Both major and minor ingredients of all products, as well as all processing procedures and equipment, are closely scrutinized and all potential allergen issues as determined by the Hain Celestial Group are declared on our labeling.
We assure you that strict manufacturing processes and procedures are in place and that all of our manufacturing facilities follow rigid allergen control programs that include staff training, segregation of allergen ingredients, production scheduling, and thorough cleaning and sanitation.
Thank you for your continued support. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-434-4246, Monday through Friday from 7AM - 5PM Mountain Time."

For labeling purposes, we include wheat, barley, rye and oats as sources of gluten." Their complete statement may be found on a page titled "Choosing Gluten-Free Foods". |

"Our products are formulated for use by majority of consumers, and not specifically for those on restricted diets, it is possible our product formulations may change at any time. Since product formulations change from time to time, we do not have a printed list of products that identifies those products that contain specific allergens or gluten. The best advice we can give you is to check the ingredient list on the label.
- All modified food starch is derived from corn, unless otherwise stated on label
- Vinegar used is white vinegar. It is derived from corn, and is therefore not a source of gluten
Ingredients that may contain any of the top eight allergens as defined by FDA (Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Soy, Fish, Seafood, Wheat, Eggs, and Milk or Dairy), as well as any ingredient that may contain Gluten are always listed on the label. Therefore, we suggest reading all ingredient labels carefully. If you cannot determine whether the product contains the ingredient in question, we suggest that you don't use it."

"Here at Sara Lee, we have a 'truth in labeling policy'. Anytime there is a gluten-containing ingredient in one of our products, the ingredient will be listed on the ingredient label. As we do not print a gluten-free list, we recommend checking the label every time for any ingredients your physician has told you to stay away from. We never hide gluten-containing ingredients in general listings such as flavorings or spices.
Should you have any comments or questions in the future, please contact us via our website at www.saralee.com or by calling our toll-free number, 1-800-925-3326."

"We do not specifically test our products for the presence of gluten, a sticky protein found in some grains such as wheat. Gluten may be present in products that contain derivatives of wheat, oat, rye, and barley.
In labeling our products, our company follows the guidelines established by the International Nomenclature for Cosmetics; Ingredients (INCI) process. Therefore, if we use an ingredient derived from a grain such as wheat, oat, rye, and/or barley, those names will appear on the label. One common example is "Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein". If you see this on the label, the material was derived from wheat, so the product may contain gluten." Your friends at Unilever, ls, Comments@unilever.com
