Mainstream Food Stores
There are many different mainstream food stores in the San Diego area. The
biggest chains are probably Ralphs, Von's, and Albertson's. In the past
year, these stores have been quickly adding to their gluten-free selections.
Ask if they have a gluten-free section, or check the health-food aisle.
Albertson's reportedly will send you a list of their gluten free foods.
The new labeling law effective January 2006 will require all companies
to list wheat if it is in the product. So you will only need to be concerned
if questionable ingredients may contain rye, barley, or oats. When in
doubt, check either directly with the company, or use one of the GF
Food Guides available. Natural flavorings is one ingredient that still
must be checked on to verify if it is GF.
Albertsons is now beginning to carry S'Better Farms Products (corn dogs,
chicken nuggets, etc.) in the Kosher forzen grocery case or the regular
frozen meat department.
Costco is a warehouse store that carries food in bulk. They have started
a new labeling policy for their Kirkland line of food products in which
they will put "no gluten" on those products that are gluten free (including
their roasted chicken). If you have a specific question on the gluten content
of
any Kirkland item, you can call a Costco service representative at 800-774-2678,
Ext. 6.

The following was sent in May 2006 from Stacy Montgomery about GTM stores, which are Wholesale Liquidators:
"GTM stores (one on Broadway in Lemon Grove, the other in Santee) carry gluten
free products at a discount.
Don't know if anyone else has ever posted about these stores. The supply can
be hit and miss, as the merchandise is never the same, but I've purchased some
great deals on pasta, cereals, bars, etc...

"I was at Kroger's last night and noticed that they are putting gluten free labels on their Kroger brand products that are gluten free. I had to find the manager to thank him and to let him know that I would be making this my number one place to shop. Dae in Louisville KY 1/7/08
