Reminder: Gluten free menu items reported by restaurants should only be considered as a starting off place for choosing items. You still must take the responsibility of being vigilant and always reconfirming the GF status of a menu item each and every time. It is also important to discuss any possible cross-contamination issues of concern.

A casual Italian dining experience. The menu online and at the restaurant notes that they have gluten free pasta and gluten-free pizza crusts.

"There is a gluten-free spaghetti and a penne and you choose from a couple of different sauces: our homemade tomato, or meat sauce, or just butter are all gluten-free. We now have a gluten-free pizza shell that we make here fresh in-house and you can choose from a whole variety of toppings. Feel free to E-mail me with any questions." "My partner and I took some friends who were visiting from back east to Borrelli’s for lunch on 2/15/10. The gluten free pasta (Tinkinyada) is fabulous as is the gluten free pizza. My non gluten free friends loved the gluten free pizza (and the regular pasta/sauce) and I loved the pizza, the gluten free pasta (and their wonderful sauce) and the gluten free bread. It is definitely worth the drive. I’m already looking forward to my next meal at Borrelli’s."

"We to to Borelli's for lunch and were very pleased.  I liked that it felt to me that most items on the menu were available in GF whereas most restaurants seem to offer only a few choices.  The waitress was very knowledgeable about the GF choices they offer and was very excited to have new customers.  For example, I think that you could get either spaghetti or penne pasta with any sauce except Alfredo and stay away from the meatballs and lasagna.  My dining partner was wanting to split a GF pizza with me but found out that the GF crust is available only in the bambino individual size so she ordered the lasagna lunch special (not GF) with a salad and coffee.  I had the white pizza that had a delicious garlic sauce which the waitress proudly proclaimed was made from fresh garlic by them at their site.  I also sampled their marinara sauce which was very fresh and yummy.

They have a GF bread you get when you order the GF pasta.  She was very attentive and gave us good service.  My dining partner brought coupons she got off of Borelli's internet site but they could not be combined with her lunch special.  My pizza was a great value at $7.95 and they were so generous with the cheese I had to get two pieces to go.  My non-GF dining partner tried the pizza as well and said the crust was good and no one would know it was special crust unless you told them!  Her meal was under $10 as well and she really enjoyed it.  I did not get sick.  I can't wait to return and highly recommend this restaurant."

The gluten free pizzas come in 8 inch size only (and if I remember correctly there is small extra fee for ordering gluten free) and you can order any combinati on of toppings. My pizza was delicious and I had no reaction afterwards. I believe they have several options to choose from for gluten free pasta as well (of which I am anxious to try next!)."

"Borelli's Pizza and Italian Food in Encinitas, CA now serves gluten free pasta and pizza. I dined there with my family last week and it was great. I spoke with the waitress about my gluten intolerance and she assured me they deal with food allergies/in tolerances often.

"We had our July CSA dining out gathering at Borrelli's (about 30 people attended), which everyone enjoyed. Here's additional information that may be helpful:

  • The GF pizza crust comes only in the 8" size for $7.95 (plus toppings).
  • The gluten-free pasta comes in spahetti or penne style, and there is an $1.95 additional fee for it.
  • All of the salads come family-style sized except for the Mixed Green Salad.

I had a pizza and loved it, as well as the Special House Salad, which was huge."
